It would be a great understatement to say that Dallem had never been one for introspection or self-pity, and now was no exception. If there were something weighing on his mind that was too much to bear, which would cause him to doubt himself and steal his resolve, then he simply stuffed it far down into a big black box and sat on it.

At present, he knew if he stopped to consider what had happened to him for too long, he might stop for good, so he didn’t. Plain as that. There were many a simpleminded buffoon who would be eager to point out the myriad flaws in this philosophy. Fortunately for him, he didn’t care one whit what those sniveling fools thought, now or ever.
